painting from peru

One of the things I enjoy when I go on travel is finding native and local folk art, preferably by aboriginal peoples. Upon returning from their travels in Latin America, my siblings gave me two pieces to add to my newly started collection. Now hanging on my wall, this piece from Peru.

  1. You never answered my question – how on earth did she get that back to the states??? That has always been my one hesitation to buying art – very hard to transport – although very cool that she did!

  2. Great question :) The canvas was taken off of the original (wooden) stretcher bars, covered with newsprint, rolled into a tube, covered with another layer or two of newsprint, which was then taped. Upon returning to the states, we took it to a shop and had it restretched onto new stretcher bars and added a hanging wire to it.Of course, one still has to carry the tube around, but it’s a little easier than than carrying the stretched canvas painting around :)
